What is 1:1 Aspect Ratio?

1:1 is a square aspect ratio used primarily for Instagram feed posts, Facebook posts, and social media ads, measuring equal width and height.

1:1 Aspect Ratio Explained

The 1:1 square format became popular with Instagram's original photo format. While Instagram has since added landscape and portrait support, square video remains effective for feed posts because it takes up more vertical screen space in the feed than landscape 16:9 content. Common resolution is 1080x1080 pixels. Square video is also popular for Facebook ads, LinkedIn posts, and Twitter/X posts. Some creators film in 9:16 and crop to 1:1 for Instagram feed while using the full vertical version for Reels. The trade-off is losing the top and bottom portions of vertical footage. BlitzReels supports 1:1 as an export aspect ratio option alongside 9:16 and 16:9.
